The Port Oysteria & Brewery

Fredericksburg·Beer To Go

About

Fried oysters, crab and shrimp dip, and Sunday happy hour anchor the menu at this Fredericksburg seafood forward taproom where a rotating live musician has been known to work the room on weeknights. The kitchen leans heavily into coastal bar food (lobster grilled cheese, fish tacos, shrimp platters) in a spot that draws the after-work crowd from around the region without the usual wait.

I stumbled upon The Port Oysteria & Brewery when scrolling Google Maps to discover restaurants and spontaneously went with a coworker after work. Surprisingly, there was no wait (we’re used to lines when going out after work) and service was both friendly and quick. A live musician played popular hits on his instruments then switched to singing after his break. The menu was a small booklet that offered many items we were interested in but did confuse at first due to inconsistency with each menu (changes out of order, in different orders.) We ordered the crab dip and fries appetizers, both arrived hot and delicious that we devoured quickly. We got a half dozen oysters, and regretted not ordering more. Then came our entrees of the crab cakes and scallop curry. The crab cakes were exactly as I like them - not too bready, soft enough to break apart with a fork and worn shredded not chunks of crab. I added some to the dip just for extra pieces. The corn hash reminded me of potato salad which is something I don’t like that but I did finish the crab cakes and two sauces. The curry my coworker said was good but flavor wise, was one note and scallops were just over cooked. Overall, lovely experience and we both would love to go again with intentions of ordering mostly oysters and appetizers. My family devoured the leftover crab dip and already making plans to visit the restaurant to try for themselves.

I surprised to know that had Happy hour on Sunday. The food was amazing the crab and shrimp dip is an absolute. Must have. I ordered the fried oysters and shrimp with fries as my main course and couldn't finish it. The service good I am definitely returning.
