Privacy Policy

VABrewGuide.com ("we," "us," or "our") is a craft brewery discovery platform serving visitors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices regarding that information.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not run advertising networks. We do not use tracking cookies.

Contact form submissions

When you submit the general contact form or the brewery owner inquiry form, we collect:

• Your name and email address
• Your brewery name (brewery owner form only)
• Your phone number, if provided
• The message you submit
• Your IP address -- used only for spam prevention and rate limiting, not for tracking or profiling

This information is stored securely in our database (Supabase) and used only to respond to your inquiry. If you submitted an inquiry and would like it deleted, contact us at hello@vabrewguide.com.

Analytics events

We track anonymous usage events to understand how visitors use the site. These include:

• Brewery listing page views
• Clicks on brewery website links
• Clicks on "Get directions" links
• Phone number taps
• Brewery saves (favorites)
• Brewery additions to crawl plans

Each event is associated with a random session ID generated in your browser's sessionStorage -- not a cookie, not tied to your identity, and discarded when you close the tab. We do not collect your name, email, or device fingerprint through analytics.

Favorites (localStorage)

If you save breweries using the heart icon, those favorites are stored in your browser's localStorage under the key vb_favorites. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers unless you explicitly create an account (a future feature).

Information we do not collect

• We do not use cookies for tracking or advertising
• We do not collect your precise location (the Near Me feature uses your browser's Geolocation API, which only runs in your browser and is never sent to our servers)
• We do not collect payment information -- any future payments are handled by Stripe directly

• To respond to inquiries submitted through our contact forms
• To understand which brewery pages and features are most useful to visitors
• To prevent spam submissions through rate limiting by IP address
• To improve the accuracy and usefulness of brewery listings
• To send email notifications about new inquiries (brewery owner form submissions)

We use the following third-party services to operate the site:

• Supabase -- our database provider, stores brewery data, contact submissions, and analytics events. Data is hosted on servers in the United States.
• Google Places API -- powers brewery information including hours, ratings, photos, and address data. Subject to Google's privacy policy.
• Resend -- used to send email notifications when contact forms are submitted. Only the content of the form submission is transmitted.
• Vercel -- our hosting provider. Your requests pass through Vercel's infrastructure. Subject to Vercel's privacy policy.

We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any advertising or retargeting networks.

Contact form submissions are retained until manually deleted by a site administrator. If you would like your submission deleted, email us at hello@vabrewguide.com and we will remove it within 14 days.

Analytics event data is retained for 90 days and does not contain any personally identifiable information.

VABrewGuide.com is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted information through our site, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
